(1816) 1828 2nd edition. G. Cruikshank, Liverpool & Longman, etc., London. Ppviii,162. Eight hand-coloured engraved plates, 1 plain plate, text woodcuts. Newly rebound in green cloth. *
Notes: "...Illustrated by coloured plates representing upwards of forty of the most useful flies accurately copied from nature." In 1816 Bainbridge described and illustrated in colour a calendar of natural insects of interest to the angler, and gave dressings for their artificial imitations. He paved the way for the later angler-entomologists. * This copy has a large number of blank leaves at front and rear. These have taken the brunt of previous use and foxing so, apart from some off-setting of plates, the actual text-block is very clean. The leaves at the rear have several pages of contemporary hand-written lists of flies, fly dressings and techniques.
