Notes: "The story of a gamekeeping family through two World Wars - a fascinating insight into the changing fortunes of a 20th century British sporting estate". Norman Sharpe was brought to Apley in 1902 when his father became head keeper. The author was badly wounded in France during the First World War, although not expected to work again he did just that, eventually succeeding his father as head keeper in 1928. Sharpe wrote this memoir upon retirement in 1968. His son Edward introduces this first edition of his autobiography.
