(1816) 1840 4th edition. Longman, Orme, Brown, Green & Longman. London. Small 8vo. Ppviii, 135. 8 colour plates, 1 plain plate, text woodcuts. Brown cloth. Spine sl rubbed with title hand-written. Very good.
Notes: "...Illustrated by coloured plates representing upwards of forty of the most useful flies accurately copied from nature." In 1816 Bainbridge described and illustrated in colour a calendar of natural insects of interest to the angler, and gave dressings for their artificial imitations. He paved the way for the later angler-entomologists. * A very good copy in contemporary, but probably not publisher's, brown cloth. Title in gilt on upper board, but (hand-lettered?) in ink on the spine. This edition is a slightly smaller format than the previous editions.
