(1836) 1913 11th edition. Henry Young & Sons. Liverpool. Two volume de luxe edition, limited to 250 sets, numbered and signed by the publisher. 4to. Two book-plates on end-papers. Spine faded & a little foxing. *
Notes: "...with directions for making the artificial representation of each fly; and a few observations and instructions on trout and grayling fishing." Volume One: Ppxxxviii,103. "For this edition all the original plates have been remade, and carefully painted by hand from the last edition which the author revised; and to them have been added several new plates, consisting principally of views of rivers which the author loved best..." Hand-coloured plates of flies and of fish, b&w photogravure plates. Volume Two contains 48 actual flies (tied by Cummins of Bishop Auckland) in sunken mounts. * These volumes are sumptuously fully bound in full green morocco with elaborately tooled spine, raised bands, etc. This would appear to be an extra-special publisher's binding as other copies seen are half-bound. The spines are faded to an attractive olive colour and there is a little light foxing. Overall an extremely attractive and desirable set. #87 of 250. "This edition is limited to two hundred and fifty copies for sale...and twenty copies for presentation."
