Notes: This is a detailed account of German Shorthaired Pointers, from the point of view of the various breeds, with something of their practical uses. Herr H.F. Seiger wrote the first 13 chapters; German standard and constitution of the Club "Shorthair"; the purpose of the German Shorthair; the Lemgo family; Tellus vs. Freudenthal's influence; the Altenauer strain; Mars Altenau and Artus Sand; progress and development; the most successful Shorthair kennels of the present day and their best individual dogs; our goal to be attained in the years to come; the Derby; the brood bitch in pregnancy; the Shorthair at exhibitions; stud-book registration. Dr. F. von Dewitz-Coelpin contributed the second part of the book, "At Hunt with the German Shorthaired Pointer" which deals with partridge shooting and deer stalking, amongst other experiences. The two authors' challengingly superficial acquaintance with English should have discouraged them from writing the entire book in English rather than German. However, the book is packed with useful information about GSP's, direct from source, and the tortuous ordeal of reading it remains worthwhile. The first edition appears to have been bound in green cloth. This edition is bound in brown vinyl.
