Notes: Eric Balson is a Kenyan game warden and professional big game hunter who has achieved some notable career successes. Besides guiding for many notables, including Tito and European royalty, Eric Balson has been involved in the creation of a number of national parks. these include Ruaha and Katavi in Tanzania and a park in the Zambezi Valley in Zambia which was unfortunately scuppered by the war in Rhodesia. Balson helped train game wardens in Nepal, and assisted in setting up that country's system of national parks. After this, Balson "received a special mandate from the Tanzanian president to stamp out commercial poaching, an activity that brought grave danger to Eric and his family, including several assassination attempts." He set up crocodile ranching in Papua New Guinea in an effort to save the saltwater crocodile from extinction. He has also ranched game in Namibia and directed the rehabilitation of Mozambique's Niassa Game Reserve. An exciting account of a packed career.
