Finely bound by Aquarius - half chestnut morocco, 5 raised bands with 5 gilt fishing creels on spine, marbled boards, gilt edges. Slipcase (brown cloth / marbled boards) by A.F. Sismore. Signed by Jack Heddon.
This edition is limited to 225 copies, plus 25 copies out-of-series. The first 50, the Edition-de-Luxe, are numbered I-L, and subsequent copies, in the Standard Limited Edition, 51-225. This copy is no. XLIV of the Edition-de-Luxe, hand-bound by Aquarius and in hand-made slip-case by A.F. Sismore, with binder's label. According to Heddon's introductory essay; "The first angling bibliography to be published ...appeared in 1811 as a contribution to No. IX of The British Bibliographer..., a scholarly periodical edited by Sir Egerton Brydges with the assistance of Joseph Haslewood. In the same year a revised edition with the addition of a title-page and index, but no record of authorship, was printed... this edition ...formed a sound basis for future angling bibliographies." Jack Heddon goes on to detail subsequent bibliographies which were based on Henry Ellis' work, up to the appearance of Westwood and Satchell.
