"Sporting Respite: Being an account of the diversions of a desk-tied sportsman," was the author's first book, originally published in 1935. It consists of a series of articles, many of them previously published in the sporting magazines of the day, on his brief escapes to the countryside during his first five years working in "the City". Tope and pike fishing, hunting and deer stalking are included. It was published under the name H. Stuart Tegner. "Days with the Deer" is a previously unpublished manuscript on Scottish red deer stalking and Northumbrian roe deer, edited by Richard Prior. The author's daughter, Veronica Blackett (countryside writer "Veronica Heath"), provides a Foreword. This edition was limited to only 300 copies and has now sold out with the publisher.
