This 1987 edition has a new dust-wrapper design. The object of this book is not to teach owners or their tenants how to run their shoots, but rather to explain to their guests and clients the nature, practicalities and traditions of an old established sport. Thus all aspects of grouse shooting are described - the different types of moor and how they are managed in order to encourage grouse to live and breed there, their natural history and behaviour patterns and the diseases which can decimate a moor in a season; the people involved - beaters, flankers, pickers-up, loaders and what they do; the keeper, in many respects the most important person of all, his duties and responsibilities; the guns and how to handle them correctly; and, of course, the dogs, an integral part of grouse shooting.
