FISHING: MY LIFE'S HOBBY. By Norman McCaskie. With an Introduction by G.E.M. Skues. Edited and illustrated by Colonel C.S. Heaton-Armstrong, O.B.E.
1950 1st edition. 4to (190 x 254mm). Pp96. Colour frontispiece, b/w photographs, illustrations. Binding B: Dark blue cloth, spine titled in red.
An astute and amusing collection of essays on trout and grayling fishing, and flies and their imitation, largely based on the Tweed and other Border waters, and on Loch Leven and Cobbinshaw Loch, with occasional excursions to the south. The author was an innovative angler, describing his use of the dry fly on the hitherto predominantly wet-fly waters of the north, and his preference for the use of imitative flies on lakes such as Loch Leven, still at that time, a stronghold of the fancy fly. In this he may have been influenced by his close friend, G.E.M. Skues, who provides a lengthy and interesting Introduction. Norman McCaskie was the older brother of H.B. McCaskie.
