Sound advice on coarse fishing from the era before the war, with a chapter each on roach, dace, chub, perch, barbel, bream, carp, tench, rudd, gudgeon, bleak and pike, and including a chapter on bait fishing for grayling. The final chapter discusses the edibility of each of these fish, discussing useful methods of cooking. We are also informed that the calorific value of gudgeon is 348 per lb, while salmon has 1,173 calories per lb, with a leg of mutton coming somewhere half-way at 890". Written in rather a ponderous style, but gives details of Yorkshire methods and of fisheries accessible to Leeds anglers". (Hampton).
