GAME SHOOTING. By Major Arthur Hood.
(1909) 1998 edition. 8vo (141 x 222mm). Ppviii,94. B/w illustrations. Brown boards illustrated and titled in gilt, gilt titles to spine.
Major Arthur Hood, famous shot of his day and guest on the best shoots, originally wrote this book as a series of articles for The Times. Hood's series of articles were published in 1909 as Shooting: Notes on Shooting in the British Isles. This facsimile reprint was issued simply as Game Shooting in 1997, although it retains the title page of 1909 with the original title. Colin McKelvie contributes an interesting introductory essay. Chapters include: Grouse driving; Partridge driving; October pheasants and boundary birds; Pheasants and covert shooting; The woodcock; The snipe; The wood pigeon; Wild fowl; Random remarks. A minor classic of its era, well worth a read.
