GRAYLING FISHING. by R.A.M.

ND (c. 1939) 1st edition. 12mo (106 x 156mm). Ppii,18. Small format sewn paperback. B/w frontispiece photograph of flies, illustrations. Original light green card covers printed in black.

In the Fishing Gazette of February 3rd, 1934, there appeared a short article, "Fond memories... or grayling?" by R.A. Miller. It is apparent from the article that the author was from the Tweed/Clyde area but he describes a trip with a friend to fish the Ericht for November grayling. He mixes trotting and flyfishing to fish the "flats" of the Ericht, and his methods and experience closely match those of the author of Grayling Fishing, "R.A.M.", who was also from the Scottish borders, and fished for grayling in the rivers of Perthshire. Grayling Fishing was first published in its entirety in two parts in the Fishing Gazette of March 3rd and March 10th 1934. The frontispiece photograph is of six grayling flies for Perthshire, though the author recommends smaller and sparser flies than these for waters like Clyde and Tweed, "where grayling are exceedingly shy."
