The title on the front covers is "Hints to Dog Owners: A Guide to the Treatment of Dogs in Health and Sickness." A popular little booklet published over many years by A.F. Sherley & Co. advising on the care of the dog. No overall author or editor is given. First published in 1907 this cheap little booklet proved very popular and by the time this eleventh edition went to press more than one and a quarter million copies had already been sold. The tenth edition alone consisted of 200,000 copies. Many more edition were issued for several decades after this also. A companion volume on the care of cats was also produced. For this eleventh edition "...there is much additional information in continuance of our policy of making each edition an improvement upon all that preceded it. ...We feel that those who 'read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest' the contents of this booklet will find it of great assistance both in keeping their dogs in health and in the prompt and intelligent treatment of minor ailments. Most of the questions that occur to a novice are answered herein, a fact appreciated by many breeders who save themselves much correspondence by presenting a copy of 'Hints to Dog Owners' with every dog they sell. Each succeeding edition is carefully revised by a leading Canine Specialist (M.R.C.V.S.) who has a practical and unequalled experience of dogs, extending over half a century."
