(1928) 1928 reprint. Large 4to (252 x 315mm). Ppxiii,28. Colour plates and pencil sketches by the author throughout. Light tan cloth, white title-label titled in black to upper board, spine untitled.
A series of fifteen mounted colour plates by the author together with reproductions of pencil sketch and title beneath each plate. Two or three paragraphs of descriptive text are printed on the page facing each plate and each page is printed on one side only. The plates are preceded with a five page preface by the author giving some background to the sketches and their settings. A handsome and collectable book of sporting art. "This volume might be entitled 'Shires and Provinces - Unexpurgated Edition,' since it contains a few of the original (and in certain cases unaltered) sketches, made on the spot, for the pictures in the two volumes bearing that title published by Messrs. Eyre and Spottiswoode Limited. In every case these sketches were painted out of doors, and in winter - which is a very different thing, I might add, from that delightful pastime known as 'sketching' by the amateur under summer skies!" (From the author's preface).
