Arranged in two parts, the first part of the book deals with angling techniques for shore and boat, big game species and the smaller species, as well as a useful chapter on fish cookery. The second half of the book describes and illustrates, with black and white line drawings, more than 100 species of fish found in New Zealand waters. "The third edition has provided the opportunity of extending and revising both text and illustrations. Drawings and descriptions of a further ten fishes and four dolphins have been added, so that the book now identifies and describes 118 marine animals. Other illustrations have been drawn or redrawn and the text revised and enlarged in many places."
