SALMONIA; OR, DAYS OF FLY FISHING. IN A SERIES OF CONSERVATIONS. WITH SOME ACCOUNT OF THE HABITS OF FISHES BELONGING TO THE GENUS SALMO. By An Angler.
(1828) 1870 later US edition. 12mo. Ppxvi,335. 6 engraved plates of views, vignette engravings of fish.
This is a later American edition, reprinted from the fifth London edition of 1869. The first three editions were published anonymously. The second and third editions have six engraved plates of views in addition to the three fly plates. These are omitted from the 4th and 5th editions which have extra vignettes of views. The author revised this before his death. The fourth edition was edited and enlarged by John Davy, his brother. Davy was President of the Royal Society. "It is distinguished by its scientific outlook, its serene Philosophy and extensive Information. Well balanced and thoughtful, it is a pleasure to read, and will doubtless always rank highly in the scale of Angling Literature." (Thomas Thorp catalogue 1973). The second and subsequent editions have six engraved views in addition to the three fly plates.
