Jamie Maxtone Graham was a well-known collector of antique fishing tackle. Recognising the value of early Hardy's catalogues as reference material, and having access to a complete run of them, he took "...the best pages from 26 available catalogues between 1886 and 1954, and made a composite catalogue which will, I hope, be useful to collectors". "But the favourite composite gadget is undoubtedly the Curate, which is a small priest, tweezers, gut-cutter, oil-bottle, and bodkin - and has a roughened surface for striking matches on."
