Malcolm Ogilvie's introduction to birds and birding on the Isle of Islay. Privately published and now quite hard to find. "It is intended that this small book will fill the gap which exists between the simple checklist of birds, published by the Islay Natural History Trust, and the comprehensive book 'Birds of Islay' by Richard Elliott, published in 1989. For the first-time birdwatcher or interested visitor it provides a brief description of what makes Islay so special for birds and gives some help in seeking out the best birdwatching spots and the best times of year for different species. For those requiring more detailed information, there is a systematic list of all the 266 different species, and eight subspecies, which have so far been recorded on the island, with information on the time of year when they are likely to be present and some indication of status and numbers."
