. * Apparently an original of a plate contributed by Derek Mills to another book, but not this one. This is a detailed and useful study of the biology and life history of the Atlantic salmon. "Among the most fascinating chapters are those on spawning, which Dr. Jones has been able not only to observe, but also to film, in a specially constructed tank - a study which it has taken him eight years to complete. On the subject of homing he is led to the remarkable conclusion that salmon are guided back to the river of their birth by the distinctive smell of its waters".
