"George M. Kelson began his continuing series 'On the Description of Salmon Flies' in the spring of 1884 in The Fishing Gazette. The first eighteen patterns he discussed were a series of flies invented by Major John P. Traherne". (David Zincavage in the introduction to this book). This was Kelson's famous series of "Land and Water" salmon flies. Here Paul Schmookler reprints Kelson's articles from The Fishing Gazette and Land and Water, together with superb photographs of his reproductions of Traherne's classic salmon fly patterns. He combined his talents as a naturalist, a historian and a fly tyer, with the photography of Ingrid Sils to produce this beautiful work - the first of his "modern" classic salmon fly books.
