Details

A concise and interesting history of the parish church of St. Peter's, Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire. "The present site was certainly established by the Middle Ages and the medieval church is mentioned in records of 1253 and 1291. There is evidence ...of a circular boundary which is typical of medieval churches, although later alterations have interfered with this circular pattern. ...Kennig, priest of 'Machenthlieth' was one of the witnesses to an agreement between Wenwynwyn, Prince of Powys, and the Cistercian monks of Strata Marcella, near Welshpool, concerning the fishery at 'Kevillioc' on the 'River Devi' 'so that all the issues of that fishery shall be divided equally in two parts between the Prince and the said monks.'"
