John Dalzell Kenworthy was an artist who was born and died at Whitehaven, Cumberland. He lived at St. Bees in the same county, where he was the postmaster. He painted in England, Scotland and France, in which places he also fished. This book is a volume of his angling thoughts and reminiscences, largely about Scottish salmon and loch trout fishing, although he does make a detour to the French Mediterranean coast. The painting opposite p191 shows the ghillie pulling his boat up the beach whilst his angler - presumably Kenworthy - sits ignoring him with a glass in his hand. The caption reads, 'A Well Earned Drink.' * Bookplate and signature of O.M. Reed, "Omar", a well-known angling author and columnist. Tipped in is a three-page index, hand-written "for reference by "Omar"".
