A PORTRAIT OF SALMON FISHING. Written and compiled by Geoffrey Nickson. Illustrated by Tim Havers.

1976 1st edition. Oblong folio (310 x 260mm). Pp112. 37 full-page colour plates by Tim Havers. White Morocco-backed gilt-decorated green cloth.

As a result of prices being driven down by the internet, this is now ridiculously cheap! A very attractive collection of the very best writings on salmon fishing. There are a number of pieces by the publisher and the editor, but the majority are drawn from older angling literature; Grey of Fallodon, Scrope, Chalmers, Chaytor, Buchan, Sheringham and others. "Tim Havers's contribution consists of paintings that are in the main of well-known pools on some English, Scottish and Welsh rivers, and although they mostly contain a distant figure either fishing for or battling with a salmon, they are essentially of the river and the surrounding landscape. They will bring back pleasant memories of the pools themselves and of others like them." (David Hopley in Flyfishers' Journal, Winter 1976).
