"A new edition with coloured plates by G.E. Lodge, portraits and selections from the original illustrations." This is the large-paper issue, with the colour plates tipped in. A contemporary advertisement states a limitation of 200 copies (Swift states 250). Colonel Thornton's account of his tour includes a number of passages on salmon and pike fishing, including one describing the capture of a huge pike. A detailed account of a lavish expedition made, by land and sea, to the Scottish Highlands in 1786. Every day was spent in sport; coursing and shooting, hawking and fishing. There are a number of passages on trout, salmon and pike fishing, including one describing the capture of a huge pike. Thornton employed an artist, George Garrard, who made numerous drawings and paintings, some of which were used to produce the engravings in the book.
