BIRDS AND THEIR NESTS AND EGGS: FOUND IN AND NEAR GREAT TOWNS. THREE SERIES IN ONE VOLUME. By George H. Vos.

ND (1909) 1st edition thus. Small 8vo (127 x 186mm). Ppxii,148;iv,223,i;vi,240. B/w pgotographs. Blue cloth, spine and upper board titled and illustrated in gilt, double blind ruled border to upper board.

"Illustrated by reproduction of photographs of each bird, its nest and eggs, made by the author from Nature, and of incidental scenes." Originally published in three separate parts, this edition combined the three for the first time. Each part looks at different birds, and at different months of the year. There are photographs of the birds (often staged, as was the custom in the early part of the twentieth century), the nests, and of their eggs, in a format that enabled size comparison for identification. An early attempt to catalogue and describe all the birds that could be found within a 16-mile radius of London.
