American essays on nature and philosophy. Much on deer-stalking in the northern United States, especially southern Alaska, with occasional forays along the banks of trout streams. Includes "Fishing," and "Trouting at Keweenaw". The second edition includes an unpaginated four-page "Postscript" offering advice on camping, and particularly recommending it as a suitable pastime for women. This is not found in the first, or later editions. This edition also omits the photograph portrait of a child found in the first edition.
