COME FISHING WITH ME. By Peter Stone.

1973 1st edition. 8vo (140 x 223mm). Pp127. B/w photographs. Brown boards, spine titled in silver-gilt.

Peter Stone's classic book of angling reminiscences of time spent by river, lake and sea. Lots of good specimen angling instruction is thrown in for good measure". The chapter on barbel - in particular the section on how he and his friends catch them by design, at night, in winter - is an important contribution to the book, for what he has to say has probably never been told in book form before. He also tells of the difficulties involved with a television camera watching; of days spent bream fishing with bags in excess of 100lb; a record catch of over 250lb. of tench by him and two friends; of days spent breaking the ice during the 1963 freeze-up and of Richard Walker who caught roach and dace 'to order' whilst singing opera. But despite his success, the author still believes fishing is fun and no-one who reads this book will fail to agree. And in the process, they will learn much too". A good book that has become quite hard to find. Chapters include: Thames barbel; The Kennet at Theale; Snowberry Lake; The swing to the sea; Blenheim Lake; The Upper Ouse; Opportunism: my first five pound chub; Days amongst the bream; Trout on the fly; Creek mullet; Fishing for television; Tench; Annan chub; Royalty barbel; 1963 freeze-up; A gravel pit; Roach and dace on Opera.
