"Notes to the sixth edition. Since this book was first published, the use of nylon monofil for casts has completely, or almost completely, superseded that of gut or gut substitute. In addition, monofil or braided nylon is increasingly employed for spinning lures. Every knot described in this book is suitable for nylon except where it is specifically stated that they are not suitable. These are included for the use of those traditionalists, if any exist still, who prefer the older materials."
