# Much on the artificial fly and close imitation of naturals for trout, but also chapters on smelt, striped bass, salmon and carp. The short carp chapter includes descriptions of a bait-dropper, floating-crust fishing, and some recipes. The illustrations, mostly of flies, both real and artificial, are by the author who was quite a distinguished artist, better known for his impressionistic landscapes, portraits and beach scenes. Chapters include:- Native brook trout; The brown trout; The rainbow trout; The artificial fly; The nomenclature of trout stream insects; Collecting trout stream insects; The observation tank: the trout's point of view; The smelt; The striped bass; The carp; Trout in New York State and Canada; Salmon of the Kedgwick. This is a copy of the first UK edition, printed by Chiswick Press, 1955. The same printer was used for the first US edition, also issued in 1955, and published by D. Van Nostrand in an edition of 1200 numbered copies.
