An attractive pocket anthology of short pieces on angling, prose and verse, drawn from the classics of literature and of angling. Samuel J. Looker edited a series of anthologies concerning sport; the others being on hunting, golf and cricket. The series title, The Beechwood Books, is given on the half-title page. This led the editors of Hampton's Angling Bibliography (2008) to assume, incorrectly, that there had been two editions with different publishers. Looker also edited several collections of the writings of Richard Jefferies, some of which contain material of interest to anglers.
