"This booklet was first published under the title Hunting Reflections for a Budding Sportsman in a much abbreviated form by the Author during his Mastership of the Albrighton Hounds [1929-1935] for the benefit of the members of the Albrighton Pony Club, in the hopes that it might help them to get the maximum amount of fun out of their hunting by avoiding making mistakes in simple matters ...whilst at the same time appreciating the national aspect of the sport." This is an enlarged edition, with the addition of many poems by the author's brother, F.A. Monckton, previously published in Bailey's Magazine. The five chapters include the following sections; the hunting year, reasons for supporting hunting, neutralisation and vagaries of scent, the meet, hounds, coverts, holloaing, jumping, courtesy, hunt servants, damage, ways in which to help hunting, glossary of some hunting terms.
