# Swarbrick was a farmer from Austby, near Ilkley on the River Wharfe. His list is "the earliest one known which gives detailed dressings for the flies and the times of the year for which they are most suitable..." (Magee). Although written in 1807, it did not appear in print until 1907 when Ellis Beanlands published it together with J.W. Sagar's list of 1890. This edition lists only Swarbrick's dressings, together with modern substitutes. It is illustrated with woodcuts by Joan Hassall and with fold-out colour plates of flies. It has an introduction by Leslie Magee. Pages not numbered (61 pp + 30 colour plates + 1 extra errata plate.) This deluxe edition appears as a pair of miniature volumes, published jointly by Ken Smith Publishing and The Fleece Press. The text volume is printed letterpress, on handmade paper, and quarter bound in blue goatskin with hand-marbled boards. No flies are laid in, as a full set of 30 flies appears in the companion volume. This is a concertina album, fully bound in blue goatskin. It contains 30 flies tied by Stuart Bowdin on down-eyed sneck bend hooks. All copies are signed by Stuart Bowdin of Pendle Flies. The matching pair of volumes are issued together in an oak and cloth clam-shell box made by Stephen Byrne. Fifty sets have been issued under each imprint, with 5 more each for private distribution, these examples numbered i - v. The total edition, under both imprints, amounts to only 110 copies.
