MODERN TROUT FLY DRESSING. By Roger Woolley. With many illustrations and dressings of over 400 flies. Second edition.
(1932) 1939 2nd edition. 12mo (110 x 165mm). Ppviii,224. B/w photographs, illustrations, folding plate. Brown cloth, upper board and spine titled in gilt.
A reprint in book form of a series of articles which appeared in the Fishing Gazette during 1930-31. "Without doubt, Woolley's book is extremely fine, containing not only clear instructions, but over four hundred dressings, many being Woolley's own. The book is illustrated, but they could be improved upon, being somewhat poor by comparison with the rest of the book. Before publication the rough draft was submitted to Skues, who gave it his wholehearted approval." (Overfield). A well respected manual, based on sound entomology. Good on all trout flies but especially strong on regional and north country soft-hackle patterns.
