THE BAZ-NAMA-YI NASIRI: A PERSIAN TREATISE ON FALCONRY. Translated by Lieut.-Colonel D.C. Phillott.

OBSERVATIONS ON EASTERN FALCONRY. By Lieut.-Colonel D.C. Phillott.

2001 1st edition. Large 8vo (171 x 257mm). Pp220. Tipped-in colour frontispiece, two folding plates loosely inserted, addenda and corrigenda slip laid in. Gilt camel and falconers motif to green cloth, spine titled in gilt.

Edition limited to 250 numbered copies, 50 of which are printed on tan-coloured hemp paper. A collection of Phillott's articles published from 1906 to 1910 in the Journal and Proceedings of the Asiatic Society of Bengal. Most are on falconry and raptors but it includes articles on houbara, on hunting dogs, and on coursing with cheetahs. There is a new introduction by the editor and publisher, Kenyon Gibson, who also contributes new illustrations for the frontispiece and chapter headings. The binding style is unorthodox. Rather than consisting of folded signatures, as is usual, this book consists of a block of single sheets, stabbed and sewn. It forms an entirely adequate and strong binding although the sewing is sometimes visible when the book is fully open. This is the second in a series of three volumes on Eastern falconry to be published by the Eryr Press.
