PLANETE SAUMON. By Guy-Noel Chaumont.

2009 1st edition. 4to. Pp351. B/w photos, ills, map, booklet of photos and ills laid in. Pictorial laminated boards.

Guy-Noel Chaumont was born in the Auvergne where his father was an angler, cane rod builder and founder of a fish hatchery. Chaumont himself emigrated to French Canada at the age of 26 in pursuit of a new life and more salmon fishing. This book is partly an account of his career as a fisherman, and entirely an expression of his enthusiasm for salmon, trout, muskellunge and the fish and rivers of Eastern Canada. Chaumont is particularly concerned with the decline of fish stocks at the hands of pollution and the devastating post-war mega projects for which federal and provincial governments have shown such enthusiasm. A fascinating, if difficult, read, with masses of information of direct use to anyone intending to fish the area, especially rivers discharging into the lower waters of the St. Lawrence. Annoyingly, there is neither a table of contents nor an index. Text entirely in French. Edition limited to 500 copies of which only the first 150 (l'edition de tete) are numbered.
