PRACTICAL LETTERS TO SEA FISHERS. By John Bickerdyke.

(1898) 1902 2nd revised edn. 8vo (145 x 217mm). Ppxii,342,ads. B/w photographs, illustrations. Blue cloth with pasted-on photograph.

A comprehensive book on sea angling from boat and shore covering all of the usual disciplines, plus chapters on ocean fishing, modern improvements in fishing tackle, flyfishing in the sea, and one on "Baits cast with the fly rod," which includes sole- and gurnard-skin flies, a fly made from dog-fish tail fibres (at last, a use for them!), and flyfishing with a mouse-tail. The title of this, the 1902 revised second edition, is actually 'Practical Letters to Sea Fishers'. Reviewers of the first edition objected to the original title "on the grounds that the Author had dealt with his subject comprehensively, and in such a manner as to render his book quite as suitable for sea fishers of mature years as for the younger generation. The word "young" is therefore omitted from the title of the present edition". There are two issues of this edition. This is the second issue with "New and cheaper edition. Horace Cox. 3/6" on the spine.
