As regards the original Foxhound Kennel Stud Book, "Unfortunately it has been found that many names of hounds have been left out which ought to have been included. ..in looking up the pedigrees of very many hounds, one is brought up short by not being able to proceed further, as the name cannot be found in the Foxhound Kennel Stud Book,, although the desired breeding of the particular hound may be of the best strain of the day. ..It is therefore with the object of trying in some measure to repair this loss that I have undertaken to produce this Supplement to the Foxhound Kennel Stud Book." This copy bears the name "S.A. Hunter, M.F.H. Old Berkshire, 1941," and the inscription, in another hand, "From Lord Bathurst, V.W.H." This latter inscription is almost certainly not the author's signature, although this was presumably once the author's copy.
