Approximately 400 books on and about deer, many of them inscribed by, or to, Richard Prior. Plus ten volumes of Richard Prior's stalking journals, some leather-bound, some bound in roe deer hide. Plus approx 150 leather-bound volumes of the old Sporting Magazine. Plus the extensive shooting diaries of W.F.C. Holman.

Richard Prior was the world's foremost authority on roe deer, and the author of many books on the subject. Consequently his collection included very many books presented to him by other authors, and many books inscribed or annotated by himself, as well as leather-bound editions of his own books. His journals, some bound in leather and some in roe deer hide, cover the period 1954 to 1970. Also included is his extensive run of the Sporting Magazine for the first half of the nineteenth century, and two volumes (1930 to 1960) of shooting diaries of W.F.C. Holman (who, I think, was Prior's father-in-law). These are wonderfully detailed and include many hand-drawn maps, photographs and other interesting enclosures. A core library of the subjects of the ecology and conservation of deer, particulary roe deer, in Britain and the northern hemisphere.
