THE SALMON RIVERS OF SCOTLAND. By Augustus Grimble. Second edition.

(1899) 1902 2nd edition. 4to (150 x 240mm). Ppxii,400. B/w photograph plates, 4 maps. Vellum backed boards, spine titled in gilt.

A comprehensive survey of the salmon fishings in Scotland at the end of the nineteenth century. Details the topography, named pools, ownership and recorded rod and net catches of all of the principal rivers, including many anecdotes, and even describes the most effective flies and gives their dressings. "In condensing into one book my four volumes of The Salmon Rivers Of Scotland, want of space has necessitated the omission of the whole of the text illustrations, together with four chapters which endeavoured to deal with the salmon problems of the day. As far, however, as information is concerned, this book contains the concentrated essence of the original four volumes." Most of the plates are b/w photographs, though a few are based on paintings, and a few of these are by Archibald Thorburn.
