Game Fair Fiascos - July 2022

Not much luck on the game fair front! I had a good busy day selling books on the first day at at Shane's Castle - then it all went downhill... Making my way along the riverbank in the evening I fell head-first into the river, damaging my shoulder as I did so. I was quite shaken, as well being soaked the skin. Luckily I had clothing with me so I made my way to the van to get changed. There I found that my phone was not working and, even worse, I had lost my hat full of flies! I got through Sunday and packed away one-handed. On Monday I felt rough but had a call to make in Donegal. I had been intending to fish, but cancelled that. On Tuesday I travelled from Donegal to Galloway stopping near Wigtown. That's when I realised that I couldn't put three days of feeling ill down to the fall and that Covid might have something to do with it. So, I tested positive on Wednesday morning and, aborting the rest of my trip, headed for home.

I may not have missed much at Scone. Apparently the organisers refused to allow traders to park or camp behind the stand - something I have been doing for over thirty years. In consequence of this, the Fly Fishing & Fly-Tying marquee will not now be attending the fair at Ragley, so neither will I!

No news about the new Welsh Game Fair, though it sounds as though my main contact there is no longer employed by the organisation! Don't hold your breath.

If you are planning to come to see me at any of these events, please check beforehand whether I will be attending.
