How to be a more professional amateur hunter, by Kevin Robertson - Professional Hunter, vet and trainer of PH's. This book is based on The Perfect Shot of 1999, with the addition of a great deal of new information, reworking of old material, and some new species chapters. This embodies fifteen years' new experience and, importantly, much discussion of new developments in bullet design, and its practical implications for the hunter. "It was never my intention to produce a book on African game animal anatomy. I was just fortunate to be in the right place at the right time and to have the necessary qualifications to do so." Robertson was on the staff of the Zimbabwean Professional Hunters and Guides Association training camp at Rifa. As part of the course, Robertson and his students would hold a critical disection of each elephant, buffalo and impala shot by the trainees. This was the first time that such a systematic, long-running series of examinations had been made, and The Perfect Shot, and Robertson's subsequent work grew out of this. The Perfect Shot II is as much a companion volume to The Perfect Shot (1999) as a new edition. Understanding is a process not an event, so read both. Chapters include: Basic game animal anatomy; Practical field ballistics for the African sport hunter; Killing criteria; Terminal bullet performance; Bullet selection - 'soft' versus 'solid'; Thick-skinned dangerous game - elephant, buffalo, hippopotamus, rhinoceros; Thin-skinned carnivores - lion, leopard, Nile crocodile, spotted hyena; Africa's glamour antelopes - greater kudu, sable, bongo by Peter Flack, roan, waterbuck, gemsbok/oryx, nyala, bushbuck; Africa's 'bread and butter' species - impala, blesbok, springbok; Other non-dangerous game - giraffe, eland, zebra, blue wildebeest, red hartebeest, black wildebeest, reedbuck, warthog; Small antelopes - duiker, klipspringer, steenbok, grysbok; Some practical considerations - trophy handling, making the 'Perfect Shot', calibre selection for an African safari.
